Immigration, Refugee Law, Nationality Law, Judicial Review Miriam regularly appears before both the First tier and Upper Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber ) and has specialised in all areas of Immigration, Asylum, Human Rights and Nationality law since 2002. She has considerable experience of conducting asylum, human rights, PBS and entry clearance appeals at first instance and on appeal and has appeared in the Administrative Court. Extensive experience of advising on and drafting applications to appeal up to Court of Appeal level. Miriam deals with a numbers of appeals against deportation following the introduction of automatic deportation of ‘foreign criminals’ by the UK Borders Act 2007, she has dealt with deportation cases involving serious criminal offences such as manslaughter, rape and the importation of Class B drugs. Miriam accepts instructs in the following types of cases to all levels: Applications for Refugee Status (includes third country removal, minors and disputed nationality); Detention and bail; Human Rights applications and appeals; Deportation and removal; Domestic Violence applications under the Immigration Rules; Nationality claims; Judicial Review; (includes emergency urgent removal cases/ injunctions) Refugee Family Reunion; Work Permits; Business Applications; Immigration-related family and child matters, (including experience of challenges by way of Judicial Review to decisions of the Secretary of State for the Home Department to remove a non resident parent where there are extant contact proceedings.) ; association agreements; marriage applications; dependant relatives ; ministers of religion; the Points Based System and EEA cases Miriam has assisted the charity BIDS (Bail for Immigration Detainees), in providing pro bono representation for immigration detainees and is willing to act on a pro bono basis on request in some cases. On a practical note, instructions are accepted to appear throughout the United Kingdom and conferences can be held at the practices of those who instruct her, when this is more convenient. Instructions to advise on appeal / JR can be accepted by email for convenience and will be considered expeditiously. |

Miriam has provided training and delivered seminars to Solicitors and Law Centres. Topics have included the Borders Act 2007, case law update courses and an assessment of likely Immigration issues that may arise in Family Law Act Proceedings. |

Additional Information |
In the past, prior to pupilage commenced in 2001, Miriam worked at Clifford Chance as a paralegal in the Litigation Department and also for a Kurdish NGO (Kurdish Life Aid) as European Liaison Officer, visiting Iraqi Kurdistan as part of her role with the British based NGO. The NGO utilised funding from EU bodies and DFID in order to build schools and hospitals in Kurdistan. |
