Simon joined Trinity Chambers in 1998 after 29 years in the Army (1st The Queens' Dragoon Guards) and 4 years with the British Red Cross (Northumbria Branch).
His Army service took him to Dhofar in the Oman, Germany, Cyprus and Beirut, as well as a number of positions in the United Kingdom culminating with commanding, in turn, the Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry and then The Scottish Yeomanry on formation.
On leaving the Army he was appointed Director of the Northumbria Branch of the British Red Cross, during which time the development of Cross House was both funded and completed within budget and on time. One memorable task he was asked to carry out, of considerable responsibility, was to tow a very dilapidated First Aid caravan from Hexham to South Shields for the Great North Run, a journey not to be repeated.
Since joining Trinity Chambers, he has seen the set grow from over 30 to over 50 barristers, move premises in Newcastle to the restored Custom House, and the establishment of Chambers in Teesside. Chambers was the fourth in the country to be awarded the Bar Council's BarMark, and the first to have both the BarMark and Investors in People accreditations.
His responsibilities in Chambers have been broad based, from developing the marketing strategy to hanging pictures, from managing the accounts to attempting to assemble flat pack furniture.
Away from Chambers he loves being in the country.
