BACKGROUND

Abigail is undertaking a Family pupillage under the supervision of Rebecca Suttle and Tory Putnam and is predominantly based in Newcastle.

During her first six, Abigail has observed a wide range of family law cases, from complex fact-find hearings in Public Law to mediation in Private Law cases. Abigail has been involved in cases on behalf of a range of instructing parties, including Local Authorities, Guardians and family members. Such cases often involve significant child protection issues, including non-accidental injuries, chronic neglect, substance misuse and domestic abuse. Abigail has observed cases that have varied in time estimates, from a twenty-day fact-finding hearing with extensive disclosure to emergency interim care orders. Abigail has therefore gained practical insight into case preparation in a variety of situations and has a solid foundational understanding of what is required for different cases.

Prior to joining Trinity Chambers, Abigail volunteered with Citizens Advice alongside studying her Barrister Training Course and her Law Degree. In this role, Abigail predominantly advised via telephone appointment on a range of personal issues, from support with benefits claims through to advising on social housing applications and council tax issues. Abigail has worked with a variety of clients with different vulnerabilities and communication needs, meaning she is well-versed in adapting her communication to meet the needs of each specific client.

Abigail has repeatedly undertaken positions of responsibility, such as being Mistress of Moots during her final year at the University of York and being the Communications Officer for the Middle Temple Students’ Association. These positions have allowed Abigail to support other students in developing their skills to pursue a career at the Bar. Abigail also mentors several students from her undergraduate university to whom she advises and offers insight into pursuing a career at the Bar.
