Adam Chaffer Joins Trinity Chambers’ Civil Team

Trinity's members and staff warmly welcome Adam Chaffer, who joins Chambers' Civil team.

Adam practised as a solicitor in Newcastle upon Tyne for seven years, specialising predominantly in construction and commercial dispute resolution. During his time as a solicitor, Adam obtained his Higher Rights of Audience (Civil) and qualified as a mediator, becoming an associate member of the Civil Mediation Council.

Adam is experienced in a wide range of construction disputes before the County Court and the High Court (TCC). His work to date has covered matters relating to both contractor and design defects, disputes relating to the supply of materials and plant, claims under the Defective Premises Act, insurance disputes, and recovery of retention sums. His non-contentious construction work has included advising on construction contracts and ancillary documents and drafting terms for sub-contractors. He is also familiar with adjudications, having acted for both referring and responding parties, along with enforcement proceedings before the TCC.

He has also dealt with complex business and commercial litigation matters, including shareholder, contractual claims and media and communication disputes. His work has covered unfair prejudice petitions, expert determinations, breach of confidence, copyright disputes, and debt recovery.

With extensive experience in personal and corporate insolvency instructions, Adam has advised directors on statutory duties, represented clients in bankruptcy and winding-up petitions, and handled issues of ownership arising from insolvency within families. He has also acted in administrative restorations of dissolved companies and other applications under the Companies Act 2006.

More recently, Adam is developing his education law practice and has a particular interest in matters relating to special educational needs.

Adam is the author of the Law Society’s Litigation Handbook: A practical guide to practice and procedure in the Business & Property Courts. With the First Edition published in 2021, Adam is currently working on updates for the Second Edition. He has also regularly contributed to the Construction Law Journal.

Commenting on joining Trinity, Adam said:
"During my time as a solicitor, I always recognised Trinity Chambers as the leading set of chambers in Newcastle upon Tyne for business and property work. I am delighted to join Chambers with a view to developing and furthering my construction and commercial practice."
