'Barbados to Scarbados' - Trinity Supports Wanderers Cricket Club Barbados Youth Program England Tour

As one of its main sponsors, Trinity Chambers is a longstanding supporter of Malton and Old Malton Cricket Club based in the heart of Ryedale in North Yorkshire. The Club fields four senior Saturday teams and a Ryedale Beckett League side. In total, there are nearly 140 league-registered players.

This summer, two teams of junior cricketers U15 and U18 from the oldest club in Barbados will be touring England with the help of a wide range of supporters, including Malton CC and its sponsors.

The Wanderers Cricket Club was the starting point for Jason Holder, Chris Jordan and the current West Indies test captain, Kraigg Brathwaite. Brathwaite will be accompanying the elite juniors as assistant coach to the Tour.

The itinerary begins in Scarborough on 22nd July with assistance of Scarborough College who welcome ‘Barbados to Scarbados’ before moving to Malton on 23rd and 24th July, with the visitors playing representative sides from North Yorkshire. They then move on to Northampton and Warwickshire before closing the Tour in Middlesex.

The assistance of Malton and Old Malton CC has been pivotal in enabling the Northern section of the Tour to take place. According to Barry Goudriaan, junior coach at Malton CC, “this is a great opportunity not only for the young West Indian players to develop their cricketing skills, but also to experience playing at a top level in very different conditions to those in Barbados. We are delighted that they have chosen to visit us and have no doubt the tour will be a great success”.

Kraigg Brathwaite added “this is more than just cricket. It is an opportunity for cultural exchange and a pathway for these young players into higher education and potentially, careers in professional sport. We are grateful to all in England who have provided and pledged their support to make this happen”.

Amongst those assisting in the project include former England players Angus Fraser, Devon Malcolm and Mark Ramprakash.

As one of Malton CC's main sponsors, Chambers is also proud to support the Tour. Trinity Housing Law barrister, Tom Tyson who is the 4th XI Captain and has played at and supported the Club for many years, said of Chambers' involvement, “being part of a highly visible and well-publicised tour, and being seen to support it can only be to the benefit of all concerned. As Ricky says, this is about personal development of youngsters, forming new friendships and all through a shared passion for cricket. We at Trinity wish them every success”.
