British Standards Institution Bar Mark Assessment

Following a rigorous review and audit process Trinity Barristers Chambers has received confirmation of the continuation of its Bar Mark registration. 

Trinity Chambers was the fourth nationwide and the first outside of London to gain the Bar Mark accreditation following its launch in 1999. Bar Mark is the Bar Council’s Scheme designed to recognise good practice management within chambers. The voluntary scheme is  independently assessed by the British Standards Institution, with the final decision on awards taken by the Bar Council’s Bar Mark Panel. Bar Mark registration, which is reviewed on a regular basis, indicates that Chambers comply with the Bar Council’s strict Practice Management Standards and Guidelines. Just over 40 Chambers nationwide have the accreditation, with 15 of those being outside of London. 

It was noted in Trinity’s Bar Mark Assessment Report that “There appears to be a culture of openness within Chambers engendering loyalty and positive attitude by the staff”. 

Commenting on the successful re-assessment, covering both Trinity’s Chambers in Newcastle and Middlesbrough, Practice Director Simon Stewart OBE said “This specific comment by the BSI assessor reinforces what we have heard so many times from established barristers on joining Trinity from other sets, and supports the belief that our people, both barristers and staff, are our strength which is certainly reflected throughout the report.”
