Due to a recent restructure of Trinity’s Civil Clerking team, driven by an increase in joining members and growing client demand, two exciting opportunities have become available to join Chambers' Civil clerking team in Newcastle.
These roles play a vital part in supporting barristers through effective practice and diary management, while also ensuring that professional clients and external agencies continue to receive a high standard of prompt and efficient service.
To secure the most appropriate person, Chambers has an open approach as to the level of experience any incoming person has and welcomes applications from experienced clerks or practice managers, those working in similarly fast-paced environments with transferable skills and those seeking to begin a career in a demanding and rewarding environment.
The Role – successful candidates will work across two specialist teams:
- Business, Property & Employment – Supporting the Lead Civil Clerk and team, this role involves assisting with the diary, practice and fee management of barristers practising in commercial, chancery, employment, and business disputes.
- Housing & Personal Injury – Supporting the Lead Civil Clerk and team, this role involves assisting with the diary, practice and fee management for barristers practising in housing law, personal injury, and related civil litigation.
Key Responsibilities for both roles include:
- Daily management of the team diary, hearing and conference bookings
- Coordinating briefs and instructions from solicitors
- With support – negotiating and agreeing fees
- Liaising with the Lead Civil Clerk – longer trials/senior members’ diaries
- Ensuring efficient communication with instructing solicitors and Court staff
- Active support to Chambers' marketing and business development initiatives
- Monitoring incoming emails and handling routine enquiries
- Logging instructions and paperwork using Chambers’ case management system
- Supporting barristers with workload oversight and paper fee billing

Applicants will need to possess excellent organisational and communication skills, a high attention to detail and be calm under pressure. They must be confident and comfortable interacting with a broad range of people. A proactive and professional approach to team-based working is a must – full training will be provided.
