Following her recent webinar providing an overview of the appeal arrangements for A level, AS and GCSE grading in England for Summer 2020, Trinity Education and Discrimination barrister Helen Hogben has been invited to comment on ITV Tyne Tees. The interview is due to be aired on 14th August 2020.
The webinar was recorded before the Government announced that students will be able to rely on mock exam results if they are unhappy with their A level grades. Helen delivered the webinar in anticipation of results day, and is aimed at parents, students and their advisers concerned about the potential impact of COVID 19 Regulations and the results grading process.
Since the recording of the webinar Ofqual has indicated that full details of the appeals process will not be available until the week commencing 17 August 2020 and are working urgently to "operationalise" the appeals process. Once these details are published, Trinity Chambers will provide further updates setting out the available options in terms of any challenges to the process and outcomes.
A recording of Helen's session is below and covers:
- How results are calculated
- School appeals against exam board decisions
- Challenging school errors in respect of grade/rank
- Bias, discrimination and malpractice
In the webinar, Helen refers to the following useful resources:
Student Guide to appeals and malpractice or maladministration complaints
Extraordinary regulatory framework : General Qualifications, Covid 19 Guidance (Ofqual, August 2020)
