URGENT UPDATE
Since this webinar was recorded on Tuesday 11 August 2020, the Government has announced that students will be able to rely on mock exam results if they are unhappy with their A level grades. At the time of writing, Ofqual have indicated that details of the appeals process will not be available until the week commencing 17 August 2020 and are working urgently to "operationalise" the appeals process. Once these details are published, Trinity Chambers will provide further updates setting out the available options in terms of any challenges to the process and outcomes.

In this webinar, Trinity Education and Discrimination barrister Helen Hogben provides an overview of the appeal arrangements for A level, AS and GCSE grading in England for Summer 2020. In anticipation of results day, the session will be of interest to parents, students and their advisers concerned about the potential impact of COVID 19 Regulations and the results grading process.

The session covers:

  • How results are calculated
  • School appeals against exam board decisions
  • Challenging school errors in respect of grade/rank
  • Bias, discrimination and malpractice

In the session, Helen refers to the following useful resources:

Student Guide to appeals and malpractice or maladministration complaints

Extraordinary regulatory framework: General Qualifications, Covid19 Conditions and Requirements (Ofqual, 11 June 2020)

Summer 2020 grades for GCSE, AS and A Level, Extended Project Qualification and Advanced Extension Award in Maths - Guidance for teachers, students, parents and carers (Ofqual, July 2020)
