On 7th March specialist Employment barrister at Trinity Chambers,Philip Engelman, represented Mark Lyon at a preliminary hearing in the Edinburgh Employment Tribunal. The Interim Employment Tribunal ruled in favour of the Grangemouth refinery union convenor Mark Lyon who claims that he was unfairly dismissed by his employers Petroineos for his trade union activity.
Following the Interim Relief Hearing Petroineos were ordered to pay Mark Lyon his wages until the full Employment Tribunal hearing takes place.
Grangemouth refinery was embroiled in an industrial dispute in 2013 centering around the the treatment of another union convenor, Stevie Deans. Mr Deans was formerly the chairman of the Falkirk Labour Party which was subsequently involved in the widely publicised dispute with the unions over the election of candidates.
