Specialist Child Care and Family law barrister, Katherine Wood recently delivered a seminar focused on Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) to Probation Officers at the North East Division of the National Probation Service.

The session highlighted the impact and prevalence of FGM in the region. In her seminar, Katherine explored the various offences and penalties under the Female Genital Mutilation Act 2003 as well as complex jurisdictional and child care issues in FGM related proceedings.

Katherine specialises in all aspects of children work, including public law and private law work. She is experienced in acting on behalf of Local Authorities, parents, extended family, interveners and children at all levels of tribunal. Her casework has seen an increase in FGM related matters.

As well as being a busy family barrister, Katherine is also a member of Trinity Chambers' Court of Protection team.
