Trinity Family barrister Kossar Kitching is a guest speaker at the "Criminalisation of Forced Marriage Conference 2014" that takes place in Middlesbrough on Thursday 24th July.The conference, arranged by the Halo Project, will look at the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 that came into force in June effectively criminalising forced marriage.
The event brings together a wide range of experts in forced marriage and honour based violence. Speakers include - Jacqui Cheer, Cleveland Police Chief Constable; Chaz Akoshile, Forced Marriage Unit; Mak Chisty, ACPO Forced Marriage/Honour Based Violence Lead Metropolitan Police; Nazir Afzal, Chief Crown Prosecutor North West; John Dilworth, Chief Crown Prosecutor North East as well as members of the Halo Project team.
The event, supported by Teesside University, is aimed at Safeguarding Partnerships, Local Authorities, Social Services, Criminal Justice Boards, Safeguarding Teams, Schools, Colleges, Universities, Domestic Violence Partnerships, Refuges, Housing Associations, PCC’s, Police and Solicitors.
Kossar will be delivering a session covering the Family Bar's perspective of the recent criminalisation of forced marriage. Kossar is a member of Trinity's Family, Mental Health and Court of Protection and Regulatory practice groups.
