Further Trinity Growth

Head of Trinity Chambers, Toby Hedworth Q.C., has welcomed two further new tenants to Chambers. 

Nicola Shaw, called in 1992 and appointed as a Deputy District Judge in 2010, joins Trinity’s substantial Family and Ancillary Relief team. Nicola’s focus will be on financial aspects of matrimonial disputes and the often complex proceedings regarding the co-ownership of property under the Trusts of Land and Appointment of Trustees Act 1996. Nicola has developed particular expertise in acting on behalf of medical and other professionals including GPs and Consultants as well as having dealt with numerous agricultural related ancillary relief proceedings. Nicola is trained in Collaborative Law. Nicola is referred to in Chambers and Partners 2011 “Nicola Shaw is equally adept at matrimonial, finance and children work, but has been focusing on high- value ancillary relief work recently.” “She is always well prepared and relates well to clients by giving them sensible, practical advice”" . She received similar praise in the previous year's Chambers and Partners which reports - “Nicola Shaw has a particular interest in cohabitation matters and ancillary relief. She has an enviable reputation and is much respected. One interviewee commented of her : “She is just excellent .. even faced with a great deal of antagonism she focuses on doing the job in hand in a constructive manner.”” 

Also joining Trinity’s growing Criminal, Regulatory and Mental Health groups is Christopher Mitford called in 2001. Recommended in the Legal 500, Christopher is a highly experienced criminal Crown Court advocate involved in high profile cases including several homicide matters, offences of violence, robbery, fraud and money laundering. Christopher also has an interest in Regulatory and Disciplinary proceedings. He has dealt with cases involving HM Revenue and Customs. Christopher has an interest in sports law. He has previously been instructed in proceedings involving the Amateur Boxing Association where he represented a trainer. Christopher has substantial experience of dealing with serious motor prosecution defences. Christopher also receives instructions in relation to mental health issues including from parties involved in or joined in Court of Protection proceedings covering “best interests”, deprivation of liberty and human rights issues. Christopher is one of the few barristers in the North East who is a CEDR accredited mediator enabling him to act as mediator and represent those involved in mediations. Christopher has recognised the significant importance of mediation and indeed his qualification and the facilities at Trinity to hold mediations are well matched.
