Barrister Marian Cleghorn, called in 2007, has joined Trinity from Garden Court North Chambers in Manchester.
Marian is a specialist housing, immigration and Judicial Review barrister. She also deals with Coroners’ Inquests and regulatory and criminal proceedings.
Marian is instructed in complex and public law matters including Judicial Review proceedings relating to housing, homelessness and the rights of gypsies and travellers including issues surrounding human rights. She deals with the defence of repossessions, unlawful eviction, anti-social behaviour and housing disrepair.
In relation to immigration and asylum, Marian deals with entry clearance matters, deportation, bail immigration and hearings at First Tier Level and in the Upper Tribunal. Again, she is instructed in cases involving human rights and Judicial Review related to immigration and asylum. Marian also represents clients in relation to business and student immigration (advising Tier 2 and Tier 4 sponsors and appellants) and undertakes work in relation to EEA nationals and free movement within the European Union.
In relation to Coroners’ Inquests she has experience of representing bereaved families including cases involving human rights and raising Article 2 issues. Marian represented the father of Summer Rogers-Ratcliffe who was killed by blunt head trauma by one of two possible perpetrators. She assisted the family in obtaining a conclusion of unlawful killing which she then used to assist in challenging the decision of the CPS not to prosecute.
Marian has worked within the Centre for Human Rights Education, Advice and Assistance in Malawi representing prisoners and advising them of their rights. She has also worked at the International Criminal Court at The Hague within the Office of the Prosecutor, initially as an Erasmus Scholar and then became Direct Assistant to the Prosecutor.
Marian commenced her tenancy at Trinity on 5th January 2015 and joins Chambers' Judicial Review, Immigration, Chancery and Regulatory practice groups.
