James Reckitt Joins Trinity Chambers

Trinity's members and staff warmly welcome the latest tenant to join Chambers, James Reckitt.

Called in 2016, James joins Chambers' growing Business & Property team dealing with instructions from across the North Eastern Circuit and beyond.

Known for his attention to detail, persuasive advocacy, and strong intellectual ability, James is a specialist civil practitioner with a broad chancery and commercial practice, with a particular interest in property disputes.

James recently appeared in the Court of Appeal for a second appeal concerning a technical point about the limitation period applicable to direct claims against the insurers of insolvent companies pursuant to the Third Parties (Rights Against Insurers) Act 2010.

He is regularly instructed on cases concerning boundaries, easements and adverse possession, some of which involve harassment allegations and injunctive relief, as well as ToLATA claims. He also has experience in commercial landlord and tenant matters, including leasehold covenant disputes and contested renewals of business tenancies, and receives instructions in housing matters.

James also enjoys working on all areas of commercial litigation including contract disputes, breaches of trust and fiduciary duty, debt recovery, shareholder disputes, unfair prejudice petitions, quasi-partnerships and allegations of directors’ misfeasance. He has represented clients in insolvency proceedings including applications to set aside statutory demands, and bankruptcy petitions. James has also conducted trials in claims involving bribery and the unfair relationship provisions of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

James' contentious probate experience includes representing and advising clients in Inheritance Act claims and disputes concerning the validity and interpretation of wills.

James also accepts instructions in intermediate/multi-track personal injury and clinical negligence cases and Coroner's Inquests.

Commenting on becoming Chambers' latest tenant, James said:

“I am delighted to be joining Trinity’s leading Business and Property team, and to be working alongside so many talented colleagues in Chambers. The quality of work at Trinity is exceptional and I look forward to further developing my Business and Property practice over the years to come.”
