Josh Normanton Succeeds in Defence of Doctor in Regulatory Proceedings
In regulatory proceedings before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (the “MPTS”) in Manchester which took place over two weeks, Trinity Chambers' Josh Normanton represented a senior medical practitioner Dr M. Dr M faced multiple allegations of domestic violence and controlling and coercive behaviour concerning his wife. The allegations spanned months of their marriage. Such were the gravity of the allegations, the General Medical Council (the “GMC”) were seeking erasure of Dr M from the register.

The evidence relied on by the GMC included two covert recordings in which it was alleged by the GMC that Dr M had admitted the misconduct. Dr M’s wife and her family members also gave evidence and were cross-examined by Josh.

After hearing submissions, the MPTS found none of the factual allegations proven. Dr M continues to practice with an unblemished record.

Josh was instructed in the proceedings on a direct access basis and continues to accept suitable direct access instructions in regulatory and disciplinary cases.
