Trinity's Members and Staff are delighted to welcome barrister Mairi Clancy as a full Chambers tenant following the recent completion of her pupillage.
Called in 2022, Mairi is a member of Trinity's Child Protection and Private Law as well as Criminal teams. Before becoming a barrister, Mairi worked in child protection, private family and domestic abuse law as a paralegal for 5 years.
In her child protection practice, Mairi regularly represents local authorities, mothers, fathers and children in public law cases involving issues of neglect, abuse, special guardianship, non-accidental injury and deprivation of liberty. On the private law side, Mairi acts for parents in private disputes about children’s residence and contact, non-molestation orders, prohibited steps and specific issue orders.
In relation to her criminal practice, during her pupillage, Mairi secured numerous successful prosecutions instructed by the Crown Prosecution Service. This included the high profile conviction of two defendants for homophobically motivated harassment where a hate crime uplift was applied to the sentence.
Mairi also has experience defending in the Crown Court and the Magistrates.
Mairi is regularly instructed by Police Authorities in relation to Sexual Harm Prevention Orders, Sexual Risk Orders and Domestic Violence Protection Orders.
Across each of her practice areas, Mairi has developed a particular strength in working with vulnerable clients such as domestic abuse survivors, those with learning difficulties, mental health issues and offending backgrounds.
