Managing and Supporting Neurodiversity at Work - Andrew Crammond

At Chambers' recent Employment Law Conference, Trinity Employment and Discrimination barrister, Andrew Crammond delivered a session entitled:

‘Neurodiversity in the Workplace: Managing and Supporting Neurodiversity at Work’

Neurodiversity in the workplace is becoming increasingly prevalent, and the number of Employment Law cases in recent years which, one way or another, involve neurodiversity is great and varied. However, it is not yet clear that, even with ACAS Guidance specific to it, employers have quite caught up with this evolving and complex area and in turn, how to manage it effectively.

The workplace issues that can arise impact both the employer/employee relationship, as well as how any ET litigation that may follow is managed. Andrew’s talk aims to provide some practical hints and tips on managing neurodiversity in the workplace and its implications when dealing with any related litigation.

Topics covered include:

  • Defining neurodiversity
  • The rise in neurodiversity claims
  • How might an employer consider managing a neurodiverse employee?
  • Performance, conduct, and capability
  • Processes and procedure
  • How might neurodiversity affect litigation?
