Eric Elliott Q.C. leading Christopher Mitford, both of Trinity Barristers Chambers, were recently successful in securing the acquittal of Mr David Wood at Newcastle Crown Court of the grave offence of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office.
Mr Wood had been accused, together with a number of others, with conspiring with a senior police officer to access police computers for intelligence in relation to the operation of a major drugs ring with a view to ensuring that the drugs operation could run smoothly. An unusual feature of the case was that they were able to run the defence without asking a single question or calling Mr Wood to give evidence. The “not guilty” verdict of the jury was unanimous.
Eric Elliott Q.C. and Christopher Mitford are members of Chambers' Criminal Law Practice Group operating from Trinity's chambers in Newcastle and Middlesbrough.
