Patrick Goodings Becomes Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb)

Financial Remedy and Private Law Children barrister, Patrick Goodings, has become a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).

Membership enables Patrick to conduct Family Law Arbitrations and make Written Determinations under the Institute of Family Law Arbitrators (IFLA) Children Scheme. A qualified Arbitrator may be instructed by both sides jointly to determine any particular points in dispute.

The Children Arbitration Scheme generally covers any issue between parents, those with parental responsibility or a sufficient interest in a child’s welfare. A wide range of areas can be dealt with under the Scheme including where a child lives, shared living arrangements, holiday plans and other visiting arrangements, education and medical treatment.

Commenting on his CIArb Membership, Patrick said:

"Family Arbitration is at the forefront of a changing legal landscape. The flexibility of approach and the speed at which disputes can be resolved makes it incredibly attractive in a system which is now inhibited by inordinate delay. It is highly likely in the coming months and years, especially in line with the new FPR 3.3 (1A), that non Court dispute resolution will become a ‘go to’ service."

Trinity offers facilities for Arbitrations at Chambers and members have also conducted Arbitrations at hired venues and solicitors’ offices across the UK. Fixed fees can be agreed in advance providing clients with costs certainty and transparency. Further advantages of Arbitration include speed, flexibility, confidentiality, finality and versatility in terms of venue and timings.
