Police Misconduct Hearing Success for Trinity's Steven Reed

Acting for the Appropriate Authority, Trinity Professional Disciplinary and Misconduct barrister, Steven Reed presented a case against PC Kevin Markowski who faced allegations relating to his use of force against Child A, who was aged 16 at the time of the incident. The officer had previously been acquitted of criminal offences, relating to the same incident at the Crown Court.

Following a 2-day hearing, during which Child A and the officer gave live evidence, the panel found that every aspect of the officer’s use of force against Child A was unnecessary and disproportionate. The panel further found that the officer had failed to perform his duties diligently and had acted disrespectfully and discourteously to Child A and a concerned member of the public, who spoke to the officer during the incident. Thereafter, the panel dismissed the officer from the police service.
