Regulatory and Licensing Barrister Joins Trinity

Former Northumbria Police barrister, Asa Anderson, has recently joined Trinity Chambers' Regulatory group. 

Asa was Called to the Bar 1998 and following a two year period in private practice he joined Newcastle City Council's Legal Department dealing with public health and environmental protection prosecutions and appeals within the Magistrates’ Court, Crown Court and High Court. 

In 2007 Asa joined Northumbria Police dealing in operational policing work, undertaking civil applications and appeals in the Magistrates’ Court, Crown Court, High Court and before tribunals. He specialised in applications to the Magistrates’ Court (and appeals to the Crown Court) in relation to forfeiture of seized cash under the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002. He also specialised in applications to the Magistrates’ Court (and appeals to the Crown Court) in relation to sexual offences prevention orders, risk of sexual harm orders, foreign travel orders, football banning orders, crack-house closure orders, and violent offender orders. He specialised in representing the Chief Constable in the Crown Court against refusal to grant/revocation of shot gun and firearms certificates. He also presented applications in Police (Property) Act proceedings in the Magistrates’ Court. 

Asa appeared on behalf of the Chief Constable, as Appropriate Authority, in relation to Police Misconduct Proceedings both before the Panel hearing the Misconduct Hearing and the Police Appeals Tribunal hearing an appeal. He appeared on behalf of the Chief Constable at Coroners' Inquest hearings before various Coroners' courts. Asa also assisted with applications and appeals in relation to civil claims against Northumbria Police appearing in the County Court and on appeal to the High Court. 

Asa joins Trinity's rapidly expanding Regulatory team which acts on behalf of many public bodies including Police Authorities, Local Authorities and NHS Trusts as well businesses and individuals.
