Joan Smith, called in 2002, joins Trinity Chambers from Old Court Chambers in Middlesbrough. Joan has developed a substantial regulatory practice both prosecuting and defending regulatory proceedings as well as dealing with licensing applications at all levels, including taxis and firearms. She also has experience of dealing with disciplinary matters including police misconduct hearings as well as Courts Martial hearings. She has dealt with Trading Standards, Animal Welfare and Environmental Protection matters, again, acting on behalf of prosecuting authorities and defendants. Joan also deals with Coroners Inquests. Joan is also an established criminal law practitioner in both the Crown Court and Magistrates’ Court dealing with offences of violence, pubic disorder, sexual misconduct, drugs, dishonesty and motor offences. She has dealt with Proceeds of Crime Act cases and applications.
