Simon Stewart OBE

Trinity's Members and Staff are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Chambers' former Practice Director, Simon Stewart OBE.

Head of Trinity Chambers, Toby Hedworth K.C. said,

"It is with the most profound sadness that we have to report the death of our dear friend and former colleague Simon Stewart. After several months of debilitating illness, which he bore with his customary good humour and courage, Simon died peacefully with his wife Katie, his son Marcus and his daughter Philippa by his side.

Lieutenant Colonel Simon Stewart OBE joined Trinity in 1998, after 28 years of military service and four years as County Director of the British Red Cross, as our first ever Practice Director as part of a massive upheaval and reorganisation. Until his retirement in 2018, under Simon’s leadership and guidance we radically changed as an organisation, embracing modern technology, business structures, practice groups and ways of working that made us leaders in our field. Famously, we became “The Flagship of the Tyne”.

In a way that may now seem old fashioned, Simon was the epitome of a gentleman and a resolute support and ally. As is often said these days, Simon’s was a life well lived, but his was better than that and encapsulated by his own words: “Oh what fun!”

We will miss him greatly and treasure our memories."

There will be a private funeral. Details of a Thanksgiving Service will be announced in due course.
