A solicitor who faced the prospect of numerous and lengthy hearings before a Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal for failing to act with integrity and failing to behave in a way that maintains the trust the public places in him, has had his career saved, after Caroline Goodwin Q.C. represented him in Criminal Appeal proceedings. The criminal convictions were overturned, paving the way for the continuation of his career, and importantly leaving his good name and character intact. A failure to have those convictions overturned would have left the solicitor with the consequence of being removed from the roll.
The solicitor concerned was originally wrongfully convicted of numerous offences involving harassment and the sending of communications over a substantial period. After a hearing lasting several days which involved the calling of evidence and legal submissions, the Crown Court overturned the conviction, without the appellant solicitor having to give evidence.
A comprehensive and methodical approach in stripping back the case, exposed both the factual and legal weaknesses, which led to the undermining of the conviction. Further, the Court made a costs order, enabling the recoupment of legal fees.
Caroline Goodwin Q.C. sits as a Crown Court Recorder and heads Trinity Chambers' Criminal and Regulatory practice groups. She is also regularly recognised in the leading legal directories:
"She goes into battle meticulously prepared and leaves no stone unturned. A silk who commands the attention of the court room and is highly respected by judges and juries." Legal 500 2022
