Alice Richardson, called in 2013, is the latest barrister to join Trinity Chambers.
Alice practises largely in the Housing, Local Government and Property sectors. Before moving to the North-East, Alice undertook pupillage, and began her practice, at a leading specialist set of Chambers in London.
Before becoming a barrister, Alice worked as a housing advisor specialising in homelessness and community care. She has an interest in cases involving discrimination, human rights, capacity issues and public law/Judicial Review. Alice acts for local authorities, social landlords and private landlords as well as tenants and other individuals. She continues to undertake some pro-bono work through the Bar Pro Bono Unit.
Alice is instructed in all aspects of housing law including possession, homelessness, allocations, anti-social behaviour, unlawful eviction, disrepair, succession and assignment. Alice has a particular interest in homelessness cases and has been instructed in both s.204 appeals and applications for Judicial Review. Alice also has significant experience in dealing with anti-social behaviour and community safety, regularly appearing in possession, injunction and committal trials.
Alice advises and acts in a wide range of public law and local government matters. She has advised on social housing fraud and the right to buy as well as housing policy and procedure. She also advises on issues involving mandatory, selective and additional licensing schemes under the Housing Act. Alice is instructed in cases concerning social care for those facing homelessness or living in unsuitable accommodation. She has been instructed in Judicial Review proceedings concerning the provision of accommodation under the Children Act and the Care Act. Alice has also been instructed in cases concerning issues of mental capacity and is particularly interested in Court of Protection cases concerning housing, community care and property.
She is instructed in a wide range of landlord and tenant cases including possession claims and related disputes such as breach of covenant, housing disrepair, forfeiture and relief. Alice appears in the First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) and accepts instructions in leasehold disputes including service charges, property management and enfranchisement.
In addition to her busy practice, Alice regularly delivers CPD accredited seminars to solicitors and in house legal teams. She also regularly writes articles and blogs which have been published by the Solicitors Journal, the Legal Action Group Housing Law Blog and the Journal of Housing Law.
Professional memberships include the Social Housing Law Association, the Property Bar Association, the Constitutional and Administrative Law Bar Association and the Housing Law Practitioners’ Association.
