Eric Elliott Q.C. led the successful defence team in R v Mehmood Mohammed (2011) at the Crown Court in Newcastle upon Tyne. Following a complex 3 year police investigation and lengthy Crown Court trial, on 25th May 2011 Mr Mohammed was acquitted of all charges. The 49 year old chartered accountant had been accused of being a pivotal figure in a multi-million pound tax fraud and money laundering scheme masterminded by two others. The case involved detailed analysis of accountancy practices and the legislation governing VAT and Corporation Tax.
