Trinity Family and Matrimonial Finance barrister, Nicola Shaw will be taking part in the Bar Council's Evening Seminar for Dispute Resolution Week on behalf of the Bar Council's Alternative Dispute Resolution Panel. The event, taking place on the evening of 23 November 2015, is entitled "Family Arbitration: Where are we now?"

In 2012 the Institute of Family Law Arbitrators, a collaboration between the Family Law Bar Association (FLBA), Resolution, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and others, launched a family arbitration scheme. The scheme covers financial disputes arising from divorce, inheritance claims, claims for child maintenance between unmarried parents, disputes about ownership of a property between cohabiting couples and civil partnership financial claims. Trinity Chambers have three qualified Family Arbitrators.

The Arbitration focused event, Chaired by Sir Peter Singer with a Keynote address delivered by Mr Justice Mostyn, is designed to assess the success of the scheme to date and the opportunities it presents for the legal profession, as well as provide an insight into what a typical arbitration involves. Topics to be covered include practitioners' experiences of arbitration, a mock first arbitration appointment, the cost of arbitration and family finance justice, and the possibility of arbitration for children cases in the future.

The seminar commences at 5pm and will be held at The Bar Council, 289-293 High Holborn, London WC1V 7HZ. For further details click here.
