Members of Trinity's Employment Law team were delighted to take part in Blacks Solicitors' annual Mock Employment Tribunal (ET) held on the afternoon of Thursday 23rd October at The Terrace in Leeds.
The packed event replicated as far as possible a real ET hearing, identifying the key issues, hearing witness evidence and cross-examination, listening to submissions, and concluding with the ET’s Judgment.
Trinity's Jane Callan, Andrew Crammond and Paul Kerfoot contributed to the session acting as Judge and Counsel for either side, with members of Blacks' Employment team taking the roles of various witnesses.
Given the current economic climate and noticeable increase in the number of redundancies across various sectors, the event focused on demonstrating how redundancy cases are assessed in the Tribunal, highlighting common pitfalls and procedural errors in the redundancy process that often lead to claims against employers.
The session was very much interactive, including questions and discussions between delegates and members of Blacks' Employment Law team and the Trinity barristers during and following the mock hearing.
Many thanks to Paul Kelly, Head of Employment, and Nicola Marks, at Blacks Solicitors for inviting Trinity Chambers to participate in the event.
