Trinity Chambers Hosts Specialist ‘Close Protection’ Police Training

For a second time, Trinity Chambers’ historic Custom House on Newcastle’s Quayside was recently used as a venue for specialist ‘Close Protection’ firearms training.

Following the success of the initial training held at Chambers, as well as various meetings and surveys, The Custom House’s size, numerous rooms, corridors and external space, were an ideal location to test officers training to become close protection firearms specialists.

The highly developed training programme was delivered by instructors from North East based Tactical Training Centre to specialist officers from forces across the UK. Their training programmes are nationally recognised and approved by the College of Policing.

The specialist instructors are constantly evolving their programmes to test candidates and reflect real life situations delivering creativity, consistency and quality to every client. The team adopt an innovative approach to tactical training and can accommodate both police and non-police organisations aiming to develop firearms, leadership and decision making skills.

The Close Protection Officer Course assessment which took place at Chambers is the penultimate stage of each officer’s extensive programme of close protection training.

Commenting on The Custom House as a venue for the training, one of the instructors said:
“Once again, the Tactical Training Centre has had the opportunity to use the great facilities at Trinity Chambers for one of our national close protection course exercises. The staff have been nothing but positive in supporting the training and we simply could not test our students in such realistic circumstances if organisations such as Trinity were not on board. Exercising at such venues is crucial to the success of the course and students and we are very grateful.”

Tom Prideaux, Trinity Chambers’ CEO added:
“We were delighted that the recently refurbished Custom House was again able to support this important specialist firearms training. As well as being home to over 100 barristers and staff, the star listed Georgian building also offers excellent conference and seminar facilities, and it was rewarding to see the diverse space being repurposed in a way that helped these specialist officers develop such valuable skills, ultimately for the benefit of national security. We look forward to again supporting similar sessions in the future.”
