Trinity Chambers' Laura Jane Miller Secures Acquittal in Sexual Assault Case

Trinity Criminal and Regulatory barrister, Laura Jane Miller has secured an acquittal in relation to an allegation of assault by penetration and multiple offences of sexual assault.

The defendant was charged following a report by a female with whom the defendant had spent the night, following a night out drinking. The main issues in the case surrounded the complainant's capacity to consent to sexual activity given her level of intoxication and the defendant's reasonable belief in consent.

The defendant was found not guilty of all counts following a five day trial at Newcastle Crown Court.

Laura, who specialises in defending cases of serious violence and sexual offences, was instructed by Sarah Turner of Watson Woodhouse Solicitors.
