Trinity Criminal Law Seminar: Unavailable Witnesses – 3rd June 2026, Newcastle

On the evening of Wednesday 3rd June 2026, members of Trinity's Criminal and Regulatory teams will be delivering an in-person seminar entitled:
“Unavailable Witnesses - Hearsay Provisions & Applications for a Witness to Give Evidence from Abroad.”

The FREE to attend event is in person only and will take place at Trinity Chambers, The Custom House, Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 3DE. Registration is at 5.15pm, with the talks taking place between 5.30pm and 6.30pm, followed by a Q&A session. The seminar will conclude with an opportunity to network with colleagues over refreshments.

Trinity barristers, Josh Normanton and Shada Mellor, will present a practical and interactive seminar covering:

1. Hearsay Provisions:

  • Witness is deceased or unfit to give evidence
  • Location of the witness cannot be ascertained despite reasonable efforts
  • Witness is in fear
  • Witness is outside the jurisdiction, and it is not reasonably practicable to secure their attendance
  • Res gestae
  • Admission in the interests of justice

2. Procedure for securing a witness to give evidence from another jurisdiction.
