Trinity’s Caroline Goodwin K.C. leading Laura Jane Miller secured the acquittal of David Ungi, for the offences of murder and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
Mr Ungi was alleged to have orchestrated the fatal shooting of Vincent Waddington Jnr on 14 July 2015 in Garston, Liverpool. The prosecution alleged that Mr Waddington was killed in a drive by shooting carried out following an argument, the previous day, between Mr Ungi and Mr Waddington’s teenage brother. A further male was also injured in the shooting.
Mr Ungi was extradited from Spain in November 2022 and faced trial before Liverpool Crown Court. He was found not guilty of both counts on the indictment, following a 5 week trial.
This was the defence team's third murder acquittal in a row.
In January 2023 a 17 year old defendant was acquitted of the murder and manslaughter of Nathaniel Wardle, following trial before Newcastle Crown Court, and in February 2023 Ben Cook, a 19 year old defendant, was acquitted of the murder of Kieran Williams also following trial before Newcastle Crown Court.
