Trinity Criminal Silk Secures Murder Acquittal

Head of Trinity Chambers, Criminal Silk, Toby Hedworth K.C. led the defence team that secured the acquittal of Daniel Lacerda, for the offences of murder and wounding with intent.

14-year-old Gordon Gault died in hospital six days after he was struck with a machete in Elswick in Newcastle's West End in November 2022.

Following a six week trial at Newcastle Crown Court before Mr Justice Martin Spencer, the Jury cleared six teenagers, including Daniel Lacerda, of joint enterprise murder. Two of the defendants, Carlos Neto and Lawson Natty, were convicted of manslaughter and unlawful wounding and will be sentenced in March.

The defendants were cleared of wounding with intent another teen during the incident.
