On the evening of Monday 8th October 2018, Trinity Chambers will welcome members of the Bar Human Rights Committee (BHRC) who will be highlighting their work to Circuit.
The session entitled "A conversation between BHRC and the North Eastern Circuit:From the peace process in Colombia to the Protection of Refugees" will be an opportunity to find out more about BHRA and how to get more involved.
Speakers will include Kirsty Brimelow QC, Chair of Bar Human Rights Committee and Jodie Blackstock, Bar Human Rights Committee Treasurer, Justice.
BHRC is the human rights arm of the Bar of England and Wales, and is independent of the Bar Council. Recent work has included acting as legal observers during the demolition of the “Jungle” camp in Calais, trial observation missions to Turkey and Egypt highlighting systemic failures in due process, mediation work between the government of Colombia and San José de Apartadó Comunidad de Paz, and ground-breaking training on child rights and the rights of IDPs for lawyers, judges, magistrates and social workers in Nigeria.
The event will take place at Trinity Chambers, The Custom House, Quayside, Newcastle Upon Tyne, NE1 3DE, with arrival at 5.15pm for a 5.30pm start and scheduled to end at 6.30pm.
