Ahead of her appearance on the judging panel for the LexisNexis Family Law Awards 2025, Trinity Family pupil barrister, Oluwapelumi Amanda Adeola, has contributed to LexisNexis' ‘Future of Law’ blog to offer her advice to legal professionals considering putting themselves forward.
In the blog entitled 'Back yourself: why entering the Family Law Awards opens more doors than you think', Amanda references her own 15 year legal career journey in Family Law, from solicitor and law firm partner to her recent move to the Bar. She shares the knowledge and experience she has gained with four key pieces of advice for industry awards submissions:
- Own your impact
- Build your confidence and brand
- Start with what you’ve already done
- Just do it!
Amanda admits that the day to day demands of the job and type of work involved, often mean that individuals rarely step back to recognise their own achievements. She emphasises the importance of opportunities like the Family Law Awards to allow legal professionals to reflect on successes and “give yourself credit for everything you’ve achieved”.
For professionals considering entering the Family Law Awards but not sure where to start or how to write about themselves, Amanda suggests looking back on previous cases or asking colleagues for their input, commenting: “you’d be surprised what others see in you that you might not see in yourself”.
Amanda’s full interview with Laura Halls from LexisNexis can be found here.
The closing date for the LexisNexis Family Law Awards submissions is 6th June 2025, with the winners being announced at the awards ceremony to be held on the evening of Wednesday, 19th November 2025, at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, London.
