Trinity’s Paul Kerfoot was a guest speaker at the Legal Futures Claims Futures Conference 2025.
The sold-out all-day event was held on Wednesday 22nd October 2025 at the Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester across two stages, with a packed twin programme covering personal injury and financial mis-selling claims.
As part of his busy Business and Property practice, Paul has developed a strong specialism in financial mis-selling and 'secret commission' cases, where he is currently engaged on many claims against energy brokers and suppliers.
During the financial mis-selling segment of the Conference Paul delivered a session entitled:
'Business energy claims – the next frontier?'
Following recent high-profile decisions on the payment of commission in the motor industry by finance lenders to dealers, the Supreme Court is set to examine ‘secret’ and ‘half secret’ commissions once again in the business energy mis-selling case of Expert Tooling and Automation Ltd v ENGIE Power Ltd. County Court claims are being stayed as a result. Paul's talk explored the current position in relation to business energy claims including fiduciary duties and secret commissions, and also what the future looks like for these complex cases.
Paul has been recognised as a Legal 500 Rising Star for Commercial Litigation, with recent entries including:
"Paul is an excellent communicator, who assimilates information quickly and thoroughly and then provides clear and robust advice"
