Trinity’s Simon Goldberg K.C. and Alice Richardson will be guest speakers at the Newcastle Upon Tyne Law Society’s Property Law Seminar to be held between 4pm – 6:30pm on Thursday 4th December.
The free-to-attend event, hosted at the offices of Ward Hadaway, Sandgate House, Quayside, Newcastle Upon Tyne, will be an engaging session of insight and discussion on key developments in Property law.
Head of Trinity’s Business & Property team, Simon Goldberg K.C., will deliver a talk titled “A Review of Adverse Possession” discussing the landmark Supreme Court judgment in Brown v Ridley and another [2025] UKSC 7, in which he successfully represented Mr and Mrs Ridley. The case clarified the period during which an applicant relying on the boundary condition in paragraph 5(4) of Schedule 6 to the Land Registration Act 2002 must hold a reasonable belief that they own the land they seek to register.
Appointed King’s Counsel in 2022, Simon is recognised as “a standard setter and standard bearer for the North East”, and is one of the region’s leading Commercial and Property litigators, with regular appearances in the Commercial Court, Circuit Commercial Court, the Business List, and both the First Tier and Upper Tribunals.
Alice Richardson, a specialist in Social Housing and Property law, and recognised in the Legal 500 as “the go-to barrister in Newcastle for this kind of work”, will deliver a session on the Renters’ Rights Bill, exploring tenancy reform provisions in Part 1 of the Bill, including:
- The end of Assured Shorthold Tenancies
- Rent increases and controls
- Renting with pets
- Rental discrimination and bidding
- Penalties and transitional provisions
Also speaking at the event will be the Law Society’s Head of Private Law, Technology and Sustainability, Nick Denys discussing the Law Society’s work to support the property sector, including:
- The launch and implementation of the new TA6 and TA7 forms
- Government homebuying reform proposals
- Recent Law Society lobbying and policy updates
- Matters arising from the Chancellor’s Budget
The event commences at 4pm with light refreshments and a welcome by Lesley Fairclough, Head of Commercial Property Team at Ward Hadaway and Vice President of the Newcastle upon Tyne Law Society followed by speaker presentations.
