Trinity Professional Disciplinary and Misconduct barrister, Steven Reed, successfully prosecuted six former and serving police officers at a Police Misconduct Hearing, conducted from the 23 to 26 March 2026, at Nottinghamshire Police HQ.
Former PC D, former PC E, former PC Ginger, former PC Willett, PC Mitchell, and PC Self all faced allegations of failing to investigate an allegation of rape and failing to safeguard the female who reported allegations of rape to them on New Year's Day 2025, at an address in Nottingham city centre.
Following a 4-day Misconduct Hearing, during which only PC Self gave evidence in his defence, the panel found that all the allegations against the former/serving officers were proved and all amounted to gross misconduct.
Having found that all serving and former officers had committed acts of gross misconduct, the panel determined that the appropriate sanction for the two serving officers was dismissal without notice; and the appropriate sanction for the four former officers was that they would have been dismissed if they were still serving.
Steven was instructed by Ms. Liz Briggs from East Midlands Police Legal Services.
