Current Chair of the Criminal Bar Association, Trinity’s Caroline Goodwin Q.C. is featured in the Law section of The Times dated 19th September 2019.
In the article headed “We are all victims of the broken criminal justice system” Caroline gives her assessment of the current criminal justice system.
In her capacity as CBA Chair and with her “in the trenches” experience, Crown Court advocate, Caroline Goodwin Q.C. argues that “substantial investment is needed to tackle court closures, falling prosecutions and the rise in violent crime”.
She adds “The criminal justice system cannot protect the public if it is continually under attack. Any desperately and much-needed investment needs to be coordinated. An investment in the police force is not enough. We need both substantial and sustained reinvestment from the bottom up.” The article concludes “What price to put on the cost to human lives while the innocent wait to clear their name in court and those who do commit crimes may be left free to offend and reoffend, time and time again.”
Caroline became CBA Chair earlier this month and Heads up Chambers' Criminal and Regulatory teams, she is also a sitting Crown Court Recorder.
