With its Newcastle base The Custom House on the Quayside, overlooking the Tyne, Trinity Chambers was an ideal venue and delighted to support the Northumbria Unit of the Maritime Volunteer Service (MVS)'s initiative to recruit more members.
On the evening of 11th April, maritime training organisation MVS, held an informal information night to let prospective new volunteers see what work the charity does on the region’s rivers, including the Tyne. Nationally, the organisation has more than 25 active units spread around the UK coastline at major port and river areas, with more units planned. HRH Prince Michael of Kent is the MVS’ Patron.
The MVS Northumbria Unit is based in Benton in Newcastle and at St Peter’s Marina although their vessels have an operating range from the Tweed to the Tees. In 2018, the MVS' vessels were deployed extensively at the Sunderland Tall Ships Race.
Attendees at the open evening included the Port of Tyne Harbour Master. As well as finding out more about the valuable work of the MVS from existing volunteers, attendees also had the unique opportunity of a guided tour around Trinity's historic Star Listed Georgian Chambers.
