Trio of Pupil Barristers Join Trinity Chambers

Trinity Chambers’ Members and Staff warmly welcome three new pupil barristers who have recently started their careers at the Bar. Trinity’s latest recruits are Amy Nerou, Birju Kotecha and Estelle Chambers (pictured L-R).

Amy Nerou starts her family law pupillage under the supervision of Kate Fenwick. Before commencing her pupillage, Amy Nerou was employed as a court clerk at Newcastle Civil and Family Court. Through her previous career, Amy has been exposed to the full range of family cases, including complex public law proceedings. Whilst completing her Master of Jurisprudence, which explored the impact of Covid-19 on the English criminal court system, Amy was also a criminal law teaching assistant at Durham University.

Birju Kotecha is undertaking a civil/commercial pupillage under the supervision of James McHugh. Sitting regularly as a Panel Chair for the Nursing and Midwifery Council and as a Lay Member for the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service, Birju’s practical expertise is in professional discipline and regulation. Birju had an academic career before coming to the Bar and remains an Assistant Professor in Law at the University of Northumbria where he was previously the Law School’s Bar Admissions Tutor and chaired the Scholarship Committee. Until recently, he acted as an External Examiner in Professional Ethics for the Bar Standards Board. Having completed a doctorate, his main academic expertise is in international criminal justice. He is an accredited mediator with a keen interest in ADR.

Estelle Chambers joins as a criminal pupil under the supervision of David Callan. Prior to pupillage, Estelle worked as a paralegal at a busy North East criminal defence firm assisting with the preparation and progression of a wide range of Crown Court cases. In this role, she gained valuable experience in advising clients on a variety of issues, including to those with particular vulnerabilities. Whilst at university, Estelle co-founded the Northumbria Bar Society which aims to assist aspiring barristers in their journey towards the profession and volunteered for the Witness Service at her local magistrates court.
