Trinity Criminal and Regulatory barrister, Sophie Johnstone recently represented her 25 year old client charged with assault by penetration and two counts of witness intimidation.
Following a 4-day trial at Teesside Crown Court, Sophie’s client was unanimously acquitted of all counts.
It was alleged that the complainant had been digitally penetrated by Sophie’s client whilst she was asleep. The case involved the pre-recorded examination of the complainant and the defence case focussed on the consumption of alcohol and drugs on the night of the incident and discrepancies within the complainant’s account.
