Trinity Chancery barrister, James Marwick together with Tom Bolton, Local Government Consultant and Pat Holding, Principal Solicitor Planning and Highways, Durham County Council, delivered a seminar to around 50 Parish Councillors from across the North East on the evening of Tuesday 3rd June 2014 at Durham County Hall.
The event entitled "Common Land and Village Greens – An Overview" looked at the history of Common Land and Village Greens, the statutory framework and relevant case law. The very practical session examined common issues and disputes faced by Councils in relation to the protection of Common Land and in particular Village Greens.
James’ session focused on the registration of Village Greens including new applications, registration criteria, proving the application, the definition of lawful sports and pastimes, locality and neighbourhood and procedure.
As well as an established Chancery barrister, James is a member of Trinity Chambers' Agricultural, Business, Costs , Employment , Personal Injury and Planning practice groups.
