Trinity child care and family barristers, Kate Fenwick and Patrick Goodings, together with guest speaker and Intermediary Amy Harrison, will be delivering a seminar focused on vulnerable witnesses in child care proceedings.
The seminar will take place on the evening of Wednesday 1st April 2020 between 5.30pm and 7.00pm at Trinity Chambers, The Custom House, Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 3DE. The session is aimed at child care practitioners as part of the Newcastle upon Tyne Law Society Education Programme.
The seminar will cover Practice Direction 3AA and vulnerable witnesses including:
- A guide to using PD 3AA in practice
- Intermediaries, funding, procedure and practice
- A practical insight from Amy Harrison, Intermediary
Kate and Patrick joined Trinity Chambers in October 2016 after a number of years practising from a leading Family Law set on the Western Circuit. They are each instructed exclusively in Family Law, with a strong emphasis on public law children cases. They routinely conduct multi–day, complex hearings and are experienced Public Law practitioners representing Local Authorities, Parents and the Children’s Guardian. Kate and Patrick regularly deal with cases involving vulnerable witnesses and often work with intermediaries.
Amy is a Registered Intermediary with the Ministry of Justice working with witnesses in criminal courts. She also works as a non-registered intermediary facilitating communication for vulnerable witnesses, defendants and parties in civil, criminal and family Courts including the High Court and Court of Appeal. Amy specialises in intermediary work in the family courts including working with those who are represented by the Official Solicitor. She works with a range of people including those who have additional learning needs, autism, ADHD, acquired head injuries and other complex communication needs. Amy currently sits on the interview panel for the Ministry of Justice for the recruitment of Registered intermediaries. She also trains non-registered intermediaries working in the family courts on behalf of Intermediaries for Justice.
