COVID19: Virtual Local Authority Meetings

In his recent article entitled "Virtual local authority meetings: Coronavirus Bill amended, ruling out uncertainty", Head of Trinity's Licensing team, barrister Charles Holland, examines the issue of whether during the Coronavirus crisis local authority meetings, including licensing sub-committee meetings, can lawfully be undertaken online.

In the article he explores the provisions of Schedule 12 of the Local Government Act 1972 requiring votes to be taken by members “present” at a meeting and how this is to be addressed by the rapidly drafted and amended Coronavirus Bill.

In response to the escalating Coronavirus crisis, Charles, other barristers in Chambers and staff are committed to providing as much assistance as possible, including urgent advice, online resources and other support, during these challenging and unprecedented times, as such Trinity have a dedicated section of the website focused on COVID-19
