Private Prosecution Dismissal for Trinity Regulatory Barrister

Trinity Regulatory barrister, Christopher Knox successfully acted on behalf of The Banks Group following a legal challenge to an open cast mining development at Dipton near Consett in County Durham.

Protesters planned to bring a private prosecution against the Company based on allegations of causing damage to the area's wild life environment, in particular the habitat of the legally protected Great Crested Newt.

Following a case management hearing at Teesside Magistrates’ Court in Middlesbrough, District Judge Helen Cousins dismissed the private prosecution proceedings. Further details of the hearing can be found here.

Christopher Knox, described as "a tenacious and able advocate" in the latest edition of Chambers & Partners 2019, is also a member of Trinity's Criminal, Family, Business and Property practice groups.
