Kossar regularly represents parents, CAFCASS and many of the region's Local Authorities in all Courts including the High Court. She is experienced in representing a child as a separate party in the proceedings. She is regularly instructed on behalf of the Children’s Guardian.

She has a wealth of experience in dealing with parents who lack capacity and dealing with vulnerable adults, those from ethnic minorities and those for whom English is not their first language where the use of interpreters is required. Kossar had a successful Immigration practice at the Bar before concentrating solely on Family Law and can speak conversational Urdu and Punjabi.

Kossar also has experience in cases involving claims where pursuant to Schedule 1 of the Children Act for financial provision quite often combined with TOLATA applications. 

Kossar has acted in a range of family finance cases whether they involve substantial sums or modest sums of money; she is known for using a sensible and realistic approach to enhance her negotiations. She is instructed at all stages of the family provision process from First Appointments (FDAs) to Final hearings.

Kossar is developing a practice in Sharia law.

Kossar has developed an interest and growing practice in mental health issues connected to her busy family practice including Court of Protection matters.


  • High Court proceedings involving a 15 year old child with complex behavioural issues where serious sexual and physical violence had been perpetrated by her father.
  • Successfully obtaining Forced Marriage Protection Orders for different Local Authorities where vulnerable minors were at risk.
  • Successfully representing Local Authorities in a number of long running and complex care proceedings in relation to allegations against parents of chronic neglect.
  • Ancillary relief proceedings where a number of assets were transferred to other family members and where overseas assets, non disclosure and third party claims were involved.
  • Advising prospective adopters in an application to adopt a child from Cambodia.
  • A number of private law cases involving a change of residence as between parents, in intractable hostile contact disputes and cases involving litigants in person.
  • Representing the Local Authority in a complex case where serious injuries have been caused to a child including “baby shaking” in one case and induced and factitous illness in another. Both cases involved evidence from a number of leading medical experts.

Kossar has delivered lectures to Resolution and Local Authority solicitors and social workers. She has conducted social work training for a number of local authorities in the region including training on the new PLO and recent Court of Appeal decisions.
